Which Anti Virus Solution is right for you?

Which net catches the biggest volume, the most deadly, the latest attack and is strong enough without having to buy a whole fishing vessel?

AV, Anti-Virus, Internet Security, Endpoint protection….

AVG, Sophos, Avast, Eset, Norton, McAfee, Symantec, Kaspersky, Webroot, Bitdefender….

So many variations, so many brands, how do you know what is right for you and how safe does it make you!

The first step is to find out which Anti-Virus solutions work with your device operating system and just because it is a Mac doesn't mean it will never get a virus or malware! -more about Macs later..

Next you need to look at the prices involved and the features that comes with that cost. Most antivirus software is subscription based, meaning that you pay a monthly or annual fee which gives you the ability to run the software and access those all-important updates, in most cases, the more you pay means the better your protection.
Most companies have a free antivirus option, but they don’t offer the same level of protection and don’t necessary run scans as efficiently -we highly recommend avoiding these and to spend from 8p a day on a proper solution has to be a no brainer. Some of the less expensive software might offer the same features, but if their database of viruses isn’t up-to-scratch; they won’t be worth the money.
Also consider where and what you use your device for -are you connecting to the internet through a secure firewall on your router, does the solution protect you with online banking, does it protect web cams or other external devices?

We recommend that your Anti-Virus solution has the following minimum features:

Title

Antivirus and Antispyware

Anti-Phishing

Botnet Protection

"I don't need an Anti-Virus solution because I've got a Mac!" Although Macs are less likely to get attacked due to the platform they are built on and there is considerably fewer Macs compared to Window devices so currently not a prime target, however things are changing and Macs are being attacked. So for £30 a year or 8p a day is it really worth the risk?

Don't just rely on the Anti-Virus to just work on its own no matter how much you paid for it, you still need to apply the computer security updates regularly, apply the AV updates -there is a database full of the latest attacks and with an average of 4000 attacks per day in 2016 you need to make sure your Anti-Virus is up to date and be vigilant about suspect emails, websites, downloads etc.

We can't stress enough how important having a good quality Anti-Virus solution on all your devices is, so if you want to know more or advise on what you need, give us a call….

Don't forget…

It's not a case if you will be attacked but when and how severe. You probably have already been attacked but just not noticed as it was a low impact attack! Next time could be catastrophic.

8p a day and a phone call to us and you could be one huge step nearer to protecting your data and business.
